Biography:
Amina Nawaz is a researcher in Islamic history, historiography, and religious practice. She completed her PhD in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge in 2016 with a doctoral dissertation which examined the sixteenth century devotional writings of Morisco communities in Spain. With a historical focus primarily on early modern Spain and the Mediterranean, her research interests also include ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ and travel narratives within Muslim communities both historically and in contemporary contexts as well as projects related to developing materials for teaching Islam (both digital and print), and practical and pastoral theology.
She was formerly a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Islamic Theology at the University of Tuebingen where she researched and taught in the fields of Sira (Prophetic Biography), Travel and Travel Writing, Interreligious studies of the Medieval and Early Modern Mediterranean, Mysticism and the broader Interdisciplinary Humanities.
At Bogazici, Amina's research continues to explore the interreligious history of the early modern Mediterranean and her teaching will include courses in the Humanities coordinatorship.
